Canadian composer, musician and producer Kara-Lis Coverdale moves effortlessly across borders: between experimental electronics and minimalist traditions, classical composition and research-driven modernism, the physical and the technological. A shining star of post-classical, ambient and minimalist music, admired by the likes of Arvo Pärt and Brian Eno, she carries recognizable echoes of the musical heritage of Steve Reich.

Her breakthrough Aftertouches was named a best album of the year by The Quietus, The Wire and NPR, and her 2025 return, From Where You Came, her first album in eight years, landed on Stereogum's list of the year's best experimental albums, with The Guardian calling it "quiet ecstasy from a composer without boundaries."

Her work is devoted to sonic afterlife, memory, and material curiosity. She interlocks several musical systems and languages, drifting softly between them and playing with composition, time and repetition. Precise and playful, her music balances the edge between reality and a dream.

With seven releases to her name, Coverdale is also an avid collaborator, with credits on records by Tim Hecker, Lee Bannon, How To Dress Well and Actress, plus contributions to albums of reworks of music by Caterina Barbieri and Alif Hilal (fka Lyra Pramuk). On stage, she has opened for Caribou, Big Thief and Death Grips, and performed as part of Floating Points' Promises Ensemble alongside Shabaka Hutchings, and with the Konoyo Gagaku Ensemble.

Her live shows are vivid, unpredictable and eerie, which has made her a festival favorite at CTM, MUTEK, Rewire and beyond.
