Long Play: Frank Ocean

Long Play returns to Rhythm for an evening dedicated to one of the most influential voices in modern R&B: Frank Ocean. For this edition, we’ll be listening through two defining albums, starting with Channel Orange and moving into Blonde as the evening progresses. Frank Ocean's debut album, Channel Orange, moves through stories of unrequited love, wealth, addiction, loneliness, and desire, shifting between different characters and perspectives. An album combining R&B and soul with elements of hip-hop, funk, pop, and electronic music. Then comes Blonde, an album focused less on traditional R&B songwriting and more on memory, identity, relationships, and the passage of time. Its experimental approach blurred the boundaries between R&B, pop, soul, and alternative music, becoming one of the defining albums of the decade.
