BEYOND the underground house music party

Denki Groove, TOWA TEI, Dancehall, Soul, Funk. Ryuichi Sakamoto, brass band, alternative rock, Dazzle Drums. At first glance, these sounds may seem completely unrelated. But they all form part of the musical journeys of the two guest DJs joining us at BEYOND on October 3 — the sounds that eventually led them to the same place: HOUSE MUSIC. This October, BEYOND welcomes two DJs from Kyoto: Tetsuya Sato (ROUND) Takanori Anai (Harmony) Tetsuya Sato (ROUND) Tetsuya first discovered electronic music in the 1990s through artists such as Denki Groove and TOWA TEI, while also absorbing a wide range of influences from Dancehall Reggae, Soul and Funk. He began his career as a House / Techno DJ in 2015 and has remained committed to playing vinyl ever since. His sets go far beyond simply playing “four-on-the-floor” tracks — blending the many grooves he has absorbed over the years into a deeply personal and distinctive style. Takanori Anai (Harmony) Growing up with piano and brass band, Takanori discovered the hypnotic power of repetition through Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “Tong Poo.” After spending his university years playing in an alternative rock band, he eventually moved into DJing. A defining moment came in 2014 when he experienced Dazzle Drums behind the decks, leading him deeper into House Music. Today, he supports Harmony, the long-running House party at CLUB MOVE that has continued since 1992, while also being involved with Weekend Traveler and organizing OXYMORON, among other projects across the Kansai area. His selections are rooted in warmth, humanity and a sense of live musical energy — always exploring the depth and openness of House Music. Different backgrounds. Different influences. Different musical journeys. And that is exactly what makes a DJ interesting. Every record they have listened to. Every sound that influenced them. Every year they have lived through. It all comes through in the PLAY. Together with BEYOND residents BABU & SHINJI HIRAO, we’ll be going from 8PM until 5AM. Beyond genres and generations, we want this to be the kind of night that simply reminds you: “Damn… music is good.” That is the kind of place we want BEYOND to be.
