Neighbourhd Presents: NBHD OPEN JAM 'Jazz-ish'

Everything sounds better with a little jazz in it...

This October, we’re exploring everything we love about jazz — and everything that happens when you start mixing it with something else.

Jazz-Soul. Jazz-Rap. Jazz-Funk. Jazz-Fusion. Jazz… ish.

Basically, if there’s a groove, some improvisation and enough room for the musicians to get weird with it, it belongs here.

And for this one, we’re welcoming some old friends back to NBHD.

Plantfood return to our stage for the first time since April 2024, bringing six musicians and a sound that refuses to sit neatly in one genre.

Born out of the Leeds jazz scene, Plantfood pull together jazz, electronica, punk and sounds from further afield into a live show built on serious musicianship and serious energy. Since we last had them at NBHD, they’ve continued tearing through stages across the UK — and now they’re coming back to Brum.

Then, we hand it over to the NBHD House Band.

This is where the -ish really comes into play.

Jazz into Soul. Rap over Fusion. Funk into something we haven’t planned for yet.

The stage opens, the rules loosen, and we let the musicians in the room decide where it goes.

Bring a song. Bring an idea. Bring something we can mess with.
