Speaker: Prof Marumi Kado
Series: Cavendish Big Science colloquium

High-energy collider physics has revealed fascinating physical laws that govern nature from the smallest known distance scales to the largest. This has been achieved through the construction of one of the most ambitious scientific projects in history: the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. With the discovery of the Higgs boson, the LHC has opened a new field of Higgs physics which connects to most of the open questions in our understanding of the fundamental laws of nature. High Energy Physics is now at a defining moment. Having recently completed its initial running phase, the LHC is preparing for major upgrades to enter a high-intensity (High-Luminosity) era. Concurrently, the particle physics community has established its next flagship machine through the European Strategy process: the Future Circular Collider (FCC). Higgs physics is one of the most prominent drivers in shaping this strategy. An overview of Higgs physics and its broad perspectives will be given.
