Speaker: Dr Alexis Barr, Imperial College London
Series: Seminars on Quantitative Biology @ CRUK Cambridge Institute
Title: Discovery research for better cell cycle targeting in cancer
Bio: Alexis did her Undergraduate and Masters degrees at the University of Cambridge. She did her PhD with Fanni Gergely at the CRUK Cambridge Institute investigating centrosomes and mitotic spindle assembly. In 2010 she moved to The Institute of Cancer Research for her Postdoctoral work with Chris Bakal where she investigated cell cycle entry using single-cell imaging and mathematical modelling to understand this heterogeneous phenomenon. In 2018, Alexis was awarded a CRUK Career Development Fellowship and started her research group at the MRC LMS at Imperial College London. In 2025, She was awarded a CRUK Programme Foundation Award. Her team wants to decipher how cells transition between proliferating and non-proliferating states and how these pathways can be manipulated to improve cancer treatment.
