OPEN PATCH 01 : FORM//SIGNAL An Introduction to Making Live Visuals with TouchDesigner BACK//SYNC invites you to join us for our first ever workshop, exploring the possibilities of creating live visuals with TouchDesigner. Whether you're interested in audiovisual performance, generative art, VJing or just simply curious about experimenting with moving images, this workshop offers an introduction to the creative and technical possibilities of real-time visual making. Led by Bangkok-based artists and visual performers palindroma and Uglybarreleye, the workshop introduces two different approaches to working with TouchDesigner: exploring images as visual materials and systems, and transforming sound into generative forms and reactive visuals. Workshop Sessions 01. Concept-Driven Visuals: Image, Sound & Other Systems Instructor: Uglybarreleye Image as Cultural Object Exploring images as cultural objects, visual language, and computational material through TouchDesigner Image as Material — TOPs Fundamentals Exploring image transformation, processing, layering, and visual relationships to develop a personal visual language. Image as System — Nodes & Relationships Exploring TouchDesigner as a system of interconnected processes rather than individual effects. This session explores both idea building and the basic technicality of visual making. Participants will learn how to connect operators, control parameters, and build simple visual systems using TOPs, parameters, feedback, and basic relationships between nodes in Touchdesigner. 02. Sound-Driven Entities Instructor: palindroma Signal processing – getting and processing audio-input to control parameters POPs: Creating 3D-objects based on algorithmic principles and controlling their shape with sound TOPs: setting up audio-reactive VFX and post-processing This session introduces audio-reactive visual systems in TouchDesigner, exploring how sound signals can be processed and translated into visual behaviours. Participants will learn how to use audio input to control parameters, generate 3D objects, and create reactive visual effects. No prior experience with TouchDesigner is required. Beginners are welcome! Participant must bring their own laptop and 3-button mouse Limited to 10 seats per session 📆 Sunday 8th November 📍 3rd Floor, SUAD BAR Schedule 13:00 - 15:30 Session 1 : Concept-Driven Visuals: Image, Sound & Other Systems Instructed by Uglybarreleye 16:00 - 18:30 Session 2 : Introduction to Using Audio Signals for Shaping 3D-Objects and Controlling Visual Effects in Touchdesigner Instructed by palindroma 19:30 - 20:00 Live Visual Performance by Uglybarreleye and palindroma 20:00 - Late Networking Party We look forward to exploring, experimenting, and making visuals together. See you there! 💫💫 About the Instructors palindroma (Roman Solodkov) palindroma’s artistic practice spans a wide range of media, from CGI and interactive installations blending digital environments and physical interfaces, to art/non-games and real-time generative visual performances in collaboration with sound artists. Partially drawing from the background in biology and neuroscience, his aesthetic revolves around mutating strict diagrammatic elements into campy artifacts, queering the interfaces and reimagining digital phenomena as part of a material culture. For real-time visual performances he crafts interactive systems which respond to sound and other features of the environment, turning the whole performance into an interface of communication with an evolving audiovisual ecosystem Uglybarreleye (Treerat Leena) Uglybarreleye (b. 2003) is a Bangkok-based visual artist and cultural organizer, and a member of The Basement TH, SAUDADE, and Dadafa Collective. She works across independent projects that explore the intersections of image, sound, and collective experience. Her practice focuses on visual experimentation through glitch, noise, point clouds, and distortion, creating a fragmented visual language that reflects shifting inner states, unstable perceptions, and intimate narratives. Through disruption and abstraction, her work explores the tension between control and chaos, questioning established social structures, the construction of meaning, and the ways we perceive, interpret, and exist within the world.
