The Bangkok Bach Players and Goethe-Institut Thailand present "THE MUSICAL OFFERING" A complete performance of J.S. BACH's Musikalisches Opfer, BWV 1079 with the BANGKOK BACH PLAYERS Teerat Ketmee, flute Chalat Limpisiri, violin Bhakasak Jaowanaridhi, violin Miti Wisuthumporn, viola Wishwin Sureeratanakorn, violoncello Pongsathorn Surapab, double bass Trisdee na Patalung, keyboard and direction Thursday, 22 October 2026, 7:30 PM at Goethe Saal, Goethe-Institut Thailand The Musical Offering (Musikalisches Opfer) is a monumental late work by Johann Sebastian Bach. Inspired by a theme given to him by Frederick the Great, Bach composed and dedicated to the king this collection of canons, two fugues, and a trio sonata, exploring the fundamental contrapuntal form of the canon to its amazing possibilities. Many of the canons are presented as musical riddles; once resolved, we are left with music that is not only intellectually mind-blowing, but also mysterious, even philosophical, and deeply beautiful. 24 years ago in Thailand, Trisdee na Patalung, Ekachai Maskulrat, and their teenage friends formed a new chamber group and together performed this rare collection of music as the humorously named I Musicini— after the famed Italian ensemble I Musici —in what may have been the Thailand premiere of the piece. That performance took place at the Somtow Performing Arts Centre, founded by Thai National Artist Somtow Sucharitkul. Today, we invite you to join the Bangkok Bach Players as they perform this beloved work by Johann Sebastian Bach at the Goethe-Institut Thailand.
