Once in Song, Once in Sound invites audiences on a musical journey into the Romantic era, exploring the beauty of song and its transformation into the expressive language of the piano. At the heart of this concert are the songs of Robert Schumann , whose music captures the profound connection between poetry and emotion. Through his delicate melodies and rich harmonic language, Schumann brings the words of poetry to life, expressing the most intimate shades of human feeling. These songs take on a new dimension through the piano transcriptions of Franz Liszt , one of the greatest pianists and composers of the Romantic period. By reimagining vocal works for solo piano, Liszt transforms the relationship between melody, harmony, and poetic expression, allowing the piano to convey both the lyrical quality of the human voice and its own unique expressive possibilities. Bringing these musical perspectives to life are three performers: pianist Sumida Ansvananda, baritone Krittathad Pisuttiwong, and mezzo-soprano Pattanan Art-ong . Together, they explore the expressive relationship between voice and piano, revealing the subtle connections between the original songs and their instrumental transcriptions.
