Berlin Science Week opens its Festival Centre at Haus der Kulturen der Welt with ninety minutes on what AI is doing to science and public life.
The centrepiece is Yoshua Bengio, Turing Award laureate and one of the architects of modern deep learning, in conversation with BBC presenter Stephanie Hare on engineering safe, sovereign AI and why industry self-regulation may not be enough. A second panel, Lebenswerte KI, puts Sibylle Anderl of DIE ZEIT alongside transformation psychologist Irina Nalis on how AI reshapes human judgement and agency. Festival Director Christian Rauch and HKW Director Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung give the welcomes.
Entry is free, but you have to book a 3-Day Festival Centre Pass to secure a seat. The Bengio session runs in English, the second in German.
Why go: Bengio rarely speaks in Berlin, and this is the clearest hour on frontier-AI risk you will get without a conference ticket. Best for researchers, policy people and founders working anywhere near AI governance.
