Workshop 3 — From Pattern to 3D form

Led by Computational Designer: Stepan Drunks

This workshop explores how handmade patterns can be translated into digital geometry, generative designs, and three-dimensional forms. Participants will work with patterns developed by hand and explore ways to reinterpret them through computational design and digital fabrication. The workshop will introduce a process for moving from a 2D pattern to a digital design and ultimately toward 3D printing.

The session creates a bridge between traditional craft and emerging technology while asking how new tools can transform cultural and personal patterns without losing the stories behind them.

Participants from the earlier workshops can continue developing their work, but new participants are also welcome.

In this workshop, you will:

Translate handmade patterns into digital designsExplore generative and computational pattern-makingExperiment with moving from 2D pattern to 3D formLearn about digital fabrication and 3D printingExplore connections between craft, culture, and emerging technology
