Join CCAS Professor of History David J. Silverman for a virtual CCAS alumni event as he challenges five commonly held myths about America’s colonial past. Drawing on his extensive research on Native American‚ colonial‚ and racial history‚ Professor Silverman will revisit familiar stories about the founding of America and reveal the people‚ conflicts‚ relationships‚ and historical realities that are often left out.

From the experiences and political power of Native nations to the complex relationships between colonists and Indigenous communities‚ this conversation will invite us to reconsider what we think we know about America’s beginnings. Professor Silverman will also examine the central role of slavery in colonial history‚ including the enslavement of Indigenous peoples and West Africans‚ and explore how slavery shaped the development of colonial America.
