Spring Creek Project Presents: The Ends of the Earth and Back: Polar Science and Poetry

“Poetry and science are allies, not opposites.” — Jane Hirshfield

OSU is a hub for cutting-edge polar research. What does that research look like through a poet’s lens? For this unique program, we invited poets from around the country to submit a creative response to OSU's polar research papers. With a unique call-and-response format, polar scientists briefly introduce their research, and selected poets share their creative responses to research at the ends of the Earth. We also invite you to visit Notes on the Cold: Images of the Arctic and Antarctic, an exhibition in the Stirek Gallery featuring contemporary artists, writers and filmmakers exploring the unique conditions of the world’s polar regions.

Open Call for Submissions Closes August 26, 2026

Experience this reading as part of our fall theme Polar Science, Polar Artevents throughout the month of October.
