Celebrate Family Weekend with a visit to UC San Diego’s most iconic landmark — Geisel Library. Known as the intellectual heart of campus, Geisel is as inspiring inside as it is striking from the outside. We have lots of activities lined up for you to celebrate with us. Families of all ages are welcome!
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16
Cool Off at Geisel, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Meet Spot
Find us at the Meet Spot, just inside Geisel’s main entrance, to get the inside scoop on what the Library offers. Learn more about Library Associates and how the Library supports student success on campus. Family Weekend attendees can also enjoy cold beverages and sweet treats while supplies last!
Postcard Making, 2 - 4 p.m., Meet Spot
Send a note to family members and loved ones who couldn’t make it to San Diego for the weekend. Grab a postcard that features our Digital Collections, or design your own “Greetings from Geisel” masterpiece.
Pens and markers are provided, and we’ll cover the postage. Find the decoration station near the Meet Spot, just inside Geisel’s main entrance.
Self-Guided Tour, 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Grab a self-guided tour map at the Meet Spot, just inside Geisel’s front entrance, and wander at your own pace and uncover the Library’s best‑kept secrets. The self-guided tour takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete and includes 5 points of interest.
You’re welcome to enjoy the panoramic views from floors 4–8, but please be mindful that these are designated quiet (floors 4–7) and silent (floor 8) study areas.
Don’t forget to capture a photo in your favorite spot and share it with us on social media (@ucsdlibrary).
