Please join us on October 14 for a lunchtime book launch featuring David Rain, associate professor of geography and international affairs and Department of Geography and Environment chair, as he discusses his recently published book, Mapping Urban Environmental Risks Using Open Source GIS. Rain’s book serves as a practical guide to understanding and responding to environmental risks in cities using open-source geographic information systems (GIS) and freely available spatial data.

Wednesday, October 14 Agenda:

11:45 a.m. | LunchNoon-1 p.m. | Book Presentation and DiscussionFrom flooding and extreme heat to fire and water scarcity, cities around the world face increasingly complex environmental risks shaped by local geography. Rain’s book demonstrates how tools such as QGIS, satellite imagery and public datasets can help communities map and better understand these threats.

The open-source version of Mapping Urban Environmental Risks Using Open Source GIS is available on the Routledge website.
