The FRO: New Models for Ambitious Research
Downloads an .ics file · Times are in Europe/London · Google Calendar
How do we organize and fund research that is too ambitious, engineering-heavy, or public-good-oriented to fit neatly within a traditional lab or startup?
This evening program will take a wide-angle look at why new institutional and funding models are emerging, where Focused Research Organizations fit, and what kinds of scientific and technological opportunities they can unlock. We’ll then zoom in on a concrete FRO example—exploring how the idea took shape, why the model was a fit, and what it looks like in practice.
Who this event is for
This event is for researchers, scientists, engineers, founders, technical operators, funders, policymakers, ecosystem builders, and anyone interested in new ways to organize and fund ambitious research.
It may be especially relevant to people exploring high-risk, high-reward projects; public-good-oriented work; alternative funding models; or scientific challenges that require dedicated teams, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a longer-term organizational commitment.
