Summary: In this walk we will be passing through various nature reserves and woodland.. Coming out of Shepreth, we will be going along Guilden brook to the village of Barrington. The village boasts one of the longest parish village greens in England over half a mile in length heading towards Hartlon. The village contains a community run pub the Hare and Hounds that will be our pub stop.

Lunch will be at the Clunch Pitt.

Wait did you just say ‘Clunch Pitt’?

Yes indeed..The Clunch Pit is a sloping area of 1.51 hectares of mixed woodland that is owned by Harlton Parish Council. The elevation falls from 63 m above sea level in the south to 48 m above sea level in the northern section of the wood.

Mention of the clunch (a form of clay/chalk used regionally as a building material) from this pit is made in relation to the building of Cambridge castle and the Enclosure Act as applied to Harlton in the early 19th century. From there well make our way back to Shepreth.

Logistics: Meet at Cambridge Central Station at 9:30 am for the 9:51 train to Shepreth.
