NEW WALK!! Actually, to be more accurate, it’s a shortened version of a new walk I led in early 2024! We start from the Zone B (free) car park at Rawcliffe park & ride, moments off the A1237 outer ring road to the north of the city.

The route encompasses riverside trails, central York, suburbia and a string of parks! A walk of variety and, given the time of year, the majority of it is on solid paths, the only ‘soft’ bit being the flood embankment we walk along.

Start point: Rawcliffe park & ride, located directly off York’s northern ring road (A1237) and off the roundabout where the A19 crosses it. If entering from the RR, at the first roundabout in the p&r, take the last exit to enter Car Park B/Zone B. This is free and open to the general public. Postcode is YO30 5XZ. Alternatively, there is a side entrance from the A19, south of the ring road.

Toilets available, a little away from where we are meeting so please allow time to use the facilities without keeping the group waiting. There are also toilet facilities at one point en route (50p payable by card only).

The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.

Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring packed lunch/drink/snacks with you.

After-walk refreshment: The quaintly-named Dormouse pub, a few minutes drive from the car park on the A19, south of the ring road. Look out for the Pub/Premier Inn/Mulberry Court Care Home signs from the A19 and immediately after these, turn right down a narrow lane. A few yards down this road, you turn right into the entrance to the car park.
PLEASE NOTE: this is a free car park for pub users BUT you have to register your vehicle on the console just inside the pub door to avoid a penalty charge.

I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you are responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
