Nunnington to Stonegrave & the river Rye - 6.75 miles

An enjoyable jaunt through pleasant countryside on undemanding terrain. One very short, steep ascent and a couple of steady climbs is as challenging as it gets in the undulating countryside of the Howardian/Hambleton Hills. Riverside trails & panoramic vista’s, together with the villages of Nunnington & Stonegrave, country tracks & field paths. There are even two ‘escape routes’, which provide the opportunity to shorten the walk, should anyone wish to do so. The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time. Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring packed lunch/drink/snacks with you. Start point: at the crossroads by the bridge close to Nunnington Hall. Roadside parking on Low Street: if coming down the main road, it’s a left turn immediately before the bridge. The road is quite narrow so would suggest parking up on the pavement so the farm vehicles can get by. Alternatively, if you go over the bridge, the entrance to Nunnington Hall car park is on your rhs. Strictly speaking I guess we shouldn’t really park there but there are no signs saying don’t and it is a good-sized car park. However, if you do decide to park there, its at your own risk! Postcode for the cafe on Low Street is YO62 5UR & for Nunnington Hall its YO62 5UY. After-walk refreshment at The Old Yard Coffee Shop on Low Street - if its open! It tends to be hit & miss with opening times for this cafe. I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance.
