Join us for a special evening of native plants, pollinators, and nocturnal insects at Arboretum San Antonio on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 5:00–11:00 p.m.
This event is part of the TPWD Texas Pollinator BioBlitz and features two activities. Participants may attend one or both.
Because Arboretum San Antonio is not currently open to the general public, advance RSVP is required and space is limited.
1. Native Plant Walk with NPSOT-SA : 5:00–7:00 p.m.
Explore native plants and their importance to pollinators with members of the Native Plant Society of Texas – San Antonio Chapter.
We’ll look at native flora, plant–pollinator relationships, and opportunities to photograph and document observations using iNaturalist.
Starting Point: Parking lot near the in-progress Arboretum Pollinator Discovery Garden
Great for beginners, experienced iNaturalist users, families, nature enthusiasts, and anyone interested in local plants and pollinators.
2. UV Light / Nocturnal Insect Event: 7:30–11:00 p.m.
Stay after dark with the Nocturnal Insect Tracking & Education (NITE) Team.
Using UV lights, we’ll attract and observe moths and other nighttime insects while learning how nocturnal insect surveys help document biodiversity.
Participants can photograph, identify, and record observations using iNaturalist.
Highlights include:

Learning how UV and blacklights are used for insect observation
Discovering the diversity of nocturnal insects
Practicing low-light nature photography
Contributing observations to community science

What to Bring

Smartphone with the iNaturalist app installed, or a camera
Comfortable closed-toe walking shoes
