Meeting @ Multnomah Falls I-84 Parking
Distance: 12.5 mile trail run
Gain: 3750 feet VEB (Vibes Elevation Based)
Start: Multnomah Falls Lodge (meet in front of Lodge/coffee shack)
After: Troutdale Station Food Carts
Drive Time from PDX: ~40 minutes
Parking Fee: No
Dogs?: NO Dogs please. We will be scrambling on technical rocky areas not safe for dogs.
NOTICE: The first section of the run will feature a steep uphill technical scramble/climb on uneven rocks/boulders. This section is known as the "Elevator Shaft". It's typically classified as one of the more difficult "trails" in the Gorge owing to elevation gain and technicality. Danger level is low, but it might be out of the comfort zone for some (hiking/walking on rocks/scree). More info: https://www.oregonhikers.org/fieldguide/ElevatorShaft
Ok, so technically we will be on trails. Several of the trails we will be on are maintained by local trails clubs and not on a lot of maps. This run will be more on the adventurous side of the Runventure runs, but there will still be a lot of running. Owing to the nature of trail-finding and lack of mapping in areas, hikers-only are highly discouraged. There will be options along the way for people to cut it shorter.
Following the Elevator Shaft, we will go by Cougar Rock, the little known Nesika Lodge, and then head our way over to the Devil's Rest backcountry for some of the smoothest and mentally soothing trails in the Gorge. The last major ascent will be up to Devil's Rest via another little-used trail, and then all downhill back to the parking area.
Owing to the distance, elevation, and time, please be prepared with the standard gear (hydration, warm layer, snack/tater tots, etc.). Poles could be useful for sections, but definitely not in the early rock field section. Trails in the Gorge are rockier than what you find in Forest Park, so proper footwear is important.
Feel free to reach out with questions.
This is a 4 donut run. ;-)
