Amended version of an old walk taking in the Battle of Boroughbridge, the Marina, Devil’s Arrows, river Tutt, St James Fountain, river Ure and the old Roman settlement of Aldborough.
Easy, flat walking on pavements, quiet roads & the flood embankment.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £2. No dogs please. Bring a drink/snacks for a short morning break.
Start point: the cobbled Hall Square with the war memorial, close to the tourist information centre and Back Lane car park.
Parking: Back Lane car park, with toilets. Fee by way of donation payable at the entrance to the car park. Suggested fee is £2.
After-walk refreshment: Grantham Arms, located on the roundabout just across the bridge spanning the river Ure. This will be pointed out shortly after the start of the walk.
Postcode of the car park is YO51 9AT.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group has no insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off head even if you think you know the route.
