On Monday 12th October, we return to Bio Aspen for a special screening of "Arkipelag", the darkly comic and unsettling debut feature from Swedish author and filmmaker Alex Schulman.
As always, the film will be shown with English subtitles, and we’ll gather afterwards in Aspen's bistro to meet, connect, and share reflections on the film together.
About the film:
In "Arkipelag", three fathers accompany their daughters on a school trip to an idyllic island in the Stockholm archipelago. When the group becomes stranded, the boundaries between childhood games, power struggles and old wounds begin to disappear.
With a sharp eye for social awkwardness and the tensions hidden beneath everyday interactions, Alex Schulman turns a seemingly ordinary school trip into a darkly entertaining exploration of power, belonging and group dynamics. The film, through a clevel use of unsettling humour and brisk storytelling, has the unique ability to hold up a mirror to both children and adults.
"Arkipelag" has been selected as Sweden’s submission for the 2027 Academy Awards, and it represents a distinctive new voice in Swedish film. Featuring Gustaf Skarsgård, Fares Fares and Linus Wahlgren, it is a tense, uncomfortable and unsettling funny film that invites audiences to look a little closer at what happens when social rules begin to break down.
