RSVP DEADLINE FOR INITIAL ALLOCATION OF PLACES: FRI 7 AUGUST
DEPOSIT PAYMENT DEADLINE: FRI 14 AUGUST
Our second Christmas event of the year sees us try out a different venue in York, this time its an old pub in the centre of this historic city!
No pre-meal walk so you can don your festive garb from the outset!
One you’ve purchased your drinks, head around the far end of the bar into the private dining room, which we have all to ourselves!
Meet for drinks/natter at 12 noon with the meal being served at 12.30pm. As it stands, we are obliged to vacate the room by 2.30pm.
Venue
The Old White Swan, 80 Goodramgate, York, YO1 7LF.
A collection of nine historic buildings, our pub dates back to the 16th century. The Grade II listed building was being used as an inn by 1703, making it one of the oldest pubs in the city. Look out for the rock with four steps in our medieval courtyard. Known as a mounting stone, this was used to help passengers board their stagecoaches. In 1781, the world’s tallest man, Mr O’Brian, who was eight feet seven inches tall, was exhibited at the pub with the landlord charging visitors a shilling to look at “the Irish Giant”. Rumour also has it that we’re haunted by a group of Catholics who were planning to escape to France. They’ve been known to rearrange the chairs into a circle and relight the fire when we’re closed at night, but don’t worry, we’re sure they won’t disturb you during your visit…
Event Eligibility
This event is open to any Group member who has paid their annual membership fee so no guests permitted. Also, I’m not charging a fee for organising this event.
RSVPs/Deposit payment deadlines
You have until August 7th to RSVP, in order to be considered for the initial allocation of places.
Deposit payments will be £10 per person payable by August 14th.
If the event becomes over-subscribed, places will be awarded based on the number of walks attended this year, also taking into account how many walks new members have attended during the time they have been in the Group.
You are welcome to RSVP for both Christmas events but I will endeavour to ensure that as many different people as possible can attend at least one of the events.
PLEASE NOTE: When you RSVP, you will initially be diverted to a Waiting List pending allocation of the available places. Therefore, up until the August deadline, the event will say ‘full’ even though no places will have been allocated.
The Meal
Once places have been allocated & deposits taken, pre-orders will be collected. A three course meal will cost £36, there is no option to do a two course meal.
Whilst vegetarians/vegans are catered for, please note gluten-free cannot be catered for.
Seating plans
Once you have been allocated a place, please feel free to message me with requests as to who you would like to sit with.
Cancellations
Once your deposit has been sent to the venue, you can only expect a refund if there is a waiting list and someone can take your place.
Final balance payments/Drink purchases
Aside from deposit payments, the remainder of your bill should be settled on the day on an individual basis.
Please order/pay for your drinks on an on-going basis. The bar is just a few feet away from our tables!
