🌳Bonsall 8 Miles🌿Cromford🌿Matlock🌿Limestone Way🌳

Our scenic walk starts from Bonsall, a historic former lead-mining village set in steep-sided converging limestone dales.
In the sloping market square is the unusual 17th century cross, set on top of 13 circular stone steps. All around the village are characterful houses and cottages, some clinging to the sides of the dale.
The ancient King's Head is a notable building in the Market Place, while the Barley Mow is another traditional pub.
The Church sits high up overlooking the village which is worth a look inside.
The surrounding area, especially on Bonsall Moor, is rich in old mine workings, reflecting the importance of lead to the area.
Bonsall has also attracted much worldwide interest as a centre of paranormal activity, including many sightings of UFO's!

Our route heads into woodland emerging into Cromford Village. We head up through woodland heading towards Matlock Bath, passing an interesting unnamed cave which is a mile long, according to locals..
The path brings us out at Upperwood passing the Cable Cars with beautiful views of Riber Castle on the opposite side.

Our route continues along tracks through Long Tor and Shining Ciff woodland to emerge into Matlock, here we head for the park and our picnic lunch..

Leaving Matlock, our route joins the Limestone Way, it takes us through scenic countryside into the lower part of Bonsall Village.

We join a scenic path along Bonsall Dale to the Upper part of the Village passing pretty cottages as we join the lane bringing us back to our Carpark.

Warm layers and walking boots are essential, as always check the weather and dress accordingly
