Blossom Hill + Pez Invites: Heléna Star & Giulia Tess

Part birthday, part album celebration, part neighbourhood gathering. Blossom Hill and Pez take over The Greyhound in Peckham for a day-into-night dance, starting upstairs in the pub for an early doors gathering with laid-back selections before downstairs to the basement club for a night of soulful house, uplifting electronica and left-of-centre dance music. To celebrate both birthday and album release, Berlin-based Blossom Hill returns to London ahead of his new album Growing Pains, following debut mini-LP Home Colours, which picked up support from Jamie xx and Lefto. His latest releases have garnered support from Jacques Greene, Logic1000 and O’Flynn, alongside a recent Tune of the Day feature from LA’s KCRW. Outside of making music, he works as A&R and label manager for Seb Wildblood’s all my thoughts imprint and has toured across Europe and Asia over the last 18 months. Joining them in the intimate 150-capacity club downstairs are two of London’s most exciting selectors, Heléna Star and Giulia Tess. Heléna Star came to DJing through radio, first getting behind the mic at 16 before going on to become a longtime resident at Foundation FM. Since then she’s developed a distinctive vocabulary in house music built around restraint, soul and storytelling rather than easy peaks. Recent years have seen her perform at Glastonbury, Boiler Room and BBC Radio 1 as well as a number of festivals across Europe, with a standout appearance at Horst Arts & Music Festival earlier this summer. Giulia Tess has become a name synonymous with a certain corner of electronic music in London. Her approach pulls the sonority of leftfield electronica into percussive club music in a way that feels remarkably effortless. As a producer, she’s released on Ross From Friends’ label Scarlet Tiger, Mesh and Classico, while as a DJ and NTS radio host she’s toured internationally, supporting Peggy Gou, Bicep and Kelly Lee Owens and even sharing B2Bs with the likes of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Nathan Fake. Her influences are wide-ranging, but over the years she’s distilled them into something focused, fused by a shared sense of emotion and energy. More than anything, it’s a good excuse to spend seven hours with great people, soundtracked by great records.
