Howard University’s College of Medicine will host a delegation from the University of Edinburgh on Thursday, October 8, 2026, as part of the Queen Elizabeth Prizes for Education: USA Exchange.

The visit will bring together Howard faculty, fellows, students, residents, and internationally recognized leaders in cardiovascular medicine for clinical and research exchange. The University of Edinburgh’s Queen Elizabeth Prize-winning work in cardiology has advanced the diagnosis of heart attacks and heart-valve disease worldwide, including research demonstrating the value of a CT-scan-first approach for patients with chest pain.

Featured guests include Professor David Newby, British Heart Foundation Duke of Edinburgh Chair of Cardiology and leader of the landmark SCOT-HEART trials, and Dr. Neil Craig, Clinical Lecturer and recipient of the 2024 European Society of Cardiology Young Investigator Award.

Hosted by Dr. Raymond Young, Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of the Cardiac Service Line/Cardiovascular ICU, the program will include a Grand Rounds session and a cardiovascular research showcase. During the showcase, six Howard students and residents will present American Heart Association abstracts, while additional presenters will share poster research. Edinburgh delegates will provide feedback alongside Howard faculty.

The Queen Elizabeth Prizes for Education are among the United Kingdom’s highest honors for universities and colleges. Through the USA Exchange, Howard joins Prize-winning UK institutions and U.S. academic partners in advancing international collaboration across education, research, social impact, and innovation.
