This panel presentation explores how libraries, archives, museums, and other cultural institutions preserve history and make it accessible.
We draw on our summer experiences at Holyoke Public Library, the Museum of Russian-German Cultural History, Mount Holyoke Archives and Special Collections, and other institutions to discuss both our behind-the-scenes and public-facing work. Our projects included digitizing and organizing archival materials, conducting provenance research, managing collections databases, researching historical figures and objects, and developing educational and interpretive resources. Together, our experiences highlight the range of work involved in cultural heritage preservation and the ways institutions shape the stories that are told about the past.
