講演概要
未来は、デザインにどのような影響を与えてきたのでしょうか。本講演では、ヘルシンキ大学の博士研究員であり、デザイン史を専門とするフランス・アウティオ博士が、1960〜70年代の日本の自動車デザインを取り上げ、より良い明日へのビジョンがデザインにどのような影響を与えてきたのかを探ります。コンセプトカーと戦後日本の自動車産業に関する博士研究をもとに、デザイン、テクノロジー、そして化石燃料に依存する社会の関係を考察します。また、日本におけるバイオミメティック・デザイン（生物模倣デザイン）に関する現在進行中の研究についても紹介します。

略歴
フランス・アウティオ博士は、ヘルシンキ大学の研究プロジェクト「Ecological Conjunctions: Contemporary Arts and Natural Science Collaborations for Civil Society Formation（生態学的な交差点：市民社会の形成に向けた現代美術と自然科学の協働）」に博士研究員として参加するデザイン史研究者です。研究関心は、デザインの生態学的・エネルギー的側面、近代デザインにおける未来志向、そしてデザインと社会的に構築されるテクノロジーの相互作用に及びます。持続不可能なデザインの歴史とその帰結を検証することで、現在の化石燃料依存型社会からの脱却に向けた知見の構築を目指しています。

Abstract:

How has the future shaped design? In this lecture, design historian Frans Autio (PhD), a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki, explores how visions of a better tomorrow influenced Japanese car design in the 1960s and 1970s. Drawing on his doctoral research into concept cars and Japan’s postwar automotive industry, he examines the relationship between design, technology, and fossil-fuel-dependent society. He will also introduce his ongoing research into biomimetic design in Japan.

Bio:

Frans Autio (PhD) is a design historian working as a postdoctoral researcher in “Ecological Conjunctions: Contemporary Arts and Natural Science Collaborations for Civil Society Formation” research project at the University of Helsinki. His research interests include the ecological and energetic aspects of design, the future orientation of modern design, and the interaction between design and socially constructed technology. Through an examination of the history of unsustainable design practices and their consequences, Autio seeks to develop knowledge for dismantling the current fossil-fuel-dependent society.
